Drivers are always being asked what is the main problem they face in the trucking industry. Some may say pay or retention. Others might complain about Electronic Logging devices (ELDs) or regulations. But many know, a humongous headache in the day and life of a truck driver is securing parking. Some states barely have any, many truck stops charge to park, and all too often drivers are faced with parking on interstate entrance and exit ramps, or in fear of being ticketed for parking in a no-parking zone.
Well everyone, at The TruckerCode.com we believe there is a solution for all of this and we are asking for your help to make it a reality. We’re not going to present ourselves as experts in getting a bill or law passed, but we are willing to learn and have the determination to make it happen.
Beginning August of 2025, The TruckerCode.com is starting a campaign to create a bill and hopefully progress it to becoming a law. This effort is being called, The Park Place Bill, or Law if we get it across the finish line, and we need your help and support to create safe, secure parking for SemiTrucks.
The basic concept of the Bill is simple. All too often drivers arrive at shipping or receiving distribution centers or warehouses with massive amounts of property. Yet, drivers are told they are not welcome to park or stay there. Many of these locations also have rules preventing drivers from arriving early and financial penalties for being late. Some even threaten having local authorities or towing agencies remove drivers and vehicles from their properties. An event like that could be career ending for a driver legally or financially – especially with towing costs that could go into thousands of dollars.
Imagine this! What if there was a law mandating shipper and receiver locations of publicly traded companies with their massive expanse of land to provide ten percent (10%) of the number of dock doors in spaces to park. These same companies that are bringing in the truck volume become tied to the solution. A distribution center with 100 docks must provide 10 spaces. 200 docks, 20 spaces. You can do math and get the point. These same companies that are the direct cause of the volume of trucks become part of the solution by creating parking. Why shouldn’t they? They are the entities profiting from the volume.
Why should tax paying citizen funds be directed towards rest areas with ongoing upkeep? And I doubt a high enough percentage of business tax revenue ever gets allocated towards rest areas.
Now notice, I also earlier stated publicly traded companies because the simple Mom & Pop startup bakery or whatever probably only has two to five dock doors. Once they grow their business large enough they can join in too, but I don’t believe in punishing the small family run operation that wants to grow.
So, what happens if publicly traded companies refuse or don’t comply with this? Again simple. Any publicly traded company that doesn’t comply will be mandated to contribute to an interest bearing escrow account the equivalent to two percent (2%) of the local land cost equal to the amount of parking spaces on the shipper or receivers property. At two percent, over five years, a parking facility can be constructed in the same area as that shipper and receiver. It’s not an immediate fix, but a step in the direction towards solving this dilemma over five years.
And, some may be asking, well… what if they aren’t willing to to do that? Again, simple. Break out the rule book on eminent domain and seize the equivalent amount of property from them to generate parking. SemiTruck parking is not as important as handicap parking, but, if businesses can be forced to create handicap parking, then there has to be some way to force them to create and provide safe semitruck parking.
Why should citizens and small businesses be burdened with this problem? They shouldn’t. Let’s hold the companies responsible for the trucks they bring to an area and profit from.
Beginning August 2025, The TruckerCode.com is beginning the “Park Place” bill/law campaign. It will begin with sending this same information via letter to The President of The United States and various political representatives in various states. This process will require repeated monthly mailings and this is where you come in.
We need you to electronically sign our letter agreeing with this proposal and hopefully contributing to the production and mailing costs. Sending 100 letters monthly costs over $50 in postage alone. That doesn’t even factor in printing materials, costs or envelopes.
If you believe in this solution, please first, like and share this video to everyone you know affected by this ongoing issue. Secondly, visit The TruckerCode.com to view the latest letter requesting The Park Place Bill become a law, and submit your information to let our representatives know you want the Park Place Bill signed into law. And third, please consider making a one time donation or recurring subscription to not only show your support but assist in the cost of mailings and contacting this great country’s lawmakers to promote the Park Place Bill into law.
Now, I’m confident I’ve over simplified this process, and I’m not legal savvy enough to know all the rules relating to eminent domain, escrow accounts, or private property, so…
If you or anyone you know is knowledgeable in the process required to get a bill drafted, promoted, and signed into law, related to this endeavor, and willing to volunteer some time towards this cause… please reach out to The TruckerCode.com. Together, let’s put an end to the stress of driving with an 11, 14 or 70 hour clock running out while passing through multiple over crowded parking areas fearful we will suffer an hour of service violation. Or even worse, creating unsafe parking along the interstate.
Let’s start driving in the right direction towards a solution versus watching more and more ‘no parking’ signs everywhere and cities with ordinances preventing semitruck parking. As the backbone delivering goods throughout America, let’s let lawmakers know, we need The Park Place Bill created and signed into Law!
